Serpent enters the competitive electric touring car market with the S411, which like all our previous cars, has been designed to win straight out of the box. Featuring an ultra low centre of gravity, optimized weight distribution, high performance geometry and top quality materials throughout, the S411 should see you in the winner’s circle in no time. In fact everything associated with this car is of the highest quality, from the packaging and supplied manuals, right through to the product and race support.

The S411 features a 2-belt configuration with a long front and a short rear Kevlar reinforced belt that combied with precision moulded gears makes for a super smooth and free drive train.

The S411 is supplied with high-quality lightweight bearings throughout, making the drive train very efficient and allowing it to run very smoothly.

The front bumper has been made from a high impact absorbing foam material and is shaped to protect the entire front end of the car in the event of a crash. The bumper is held in place with a large top-plate. The lower plate can be cut to the desired size and shape.

The Serpent S411 utilises a centrally mounted ballraced dual pivot steering assembly-rack in aluminium. The steering assembly allows for very precise steering and great control.

For adjusting the cars toe-in and track-width, the S411 is equipped with separately mounted suspension brackets on both the front and rear of the car. Each bracket features an easily recognisable number that corresponds to the setting being used and due to the way they are mounted allows the user to easily and accurately adjust their cars settings. The brackets are designed such way that they can be used in any position in the car.

This car is supplied with a complete set of 4 high quality hard coated spring-steel CVD shafts, which are a highly consistent, efficient and durable way to transfer all the power the surface.

The very narrow chassis plate has been machined from a plate of 2.5mm thick carbon fibre, which creates a perfect platform for the cars electronics as well as stiff structure, especially when combined with the equally rigid 2.5mm thick carbon fibre top deck. All holes in the base of the chassis have been countersunk while on the top of the plate, the area around the motor has been milled down to allow it to sit as low as possible. The chassis further features extra holes to mount weights and narrow slits to guide the battery-tape.

The battery pack is kept in place by 2 mounts on the centreline of the car, and 2 special nylon mounts with slits to mount the glass-tape. The mounts can be reverted to move the battery more forward or backwards.

The Serpent S411 features 2.5mm thick carbon fibre shock towers on the front and rear of the car. Each tower sports many holes for adjustment of the shock absorber angle while the rear tower also acts as the mount for the rear body posts and the front tower accommodates a 3rd front body post.

The car comes supplied with a front spool which has been made from hard anodised aluminium while its shape has been optimised to ensure that the part is as light as possible without compromising strength. The drive is provided through the attached pulley into the lightened steel drive cups, which are held in place using steel pins.

The RCCX shock absorbers are very smooth and come pre-assembled. Machined from aluminium and unique in that the shock bodies only open on the bottom half, they are really simple to (re)assemble. The result is an ultra-smooth and air-free shock absorber thanks to the self-bleeding system incorporated into the design. The special X-shaped o-rings create a very smooth seal. The shocks are supplied with 4 different shock pistons. High quality race-springs included with color coding, grinded flat for even load.

The S411 is supplied with coded anti-roll bars front and rear with alu centering bracket. The anti-roll bars are available in a number of thicknesses and are connected to the wishbones using short adjustable track rods, connected with a pivot ball to the lower wishbones

A standard system on all high-end touring cars, the S411 features a front C-hub system, which is a lighter alternative to a pivot ball steering system. The car comes standard with a 4-degree caster block but is also supplied with a pair of 2 and 6-degree blocks. The C-hub is large enough to take out the drive-shaft assembly without dis-assembling the c-hubs.

Similar to the rear suspension in configuration, the front suspension sports a lower composite wishbone while the upper camber adjustment is handled using a track rod which is solid, lightweight and can easily handle impacts.

The kit version of the S411 comes supplied with a lightweight and smooth rear gear-differential. This supersmall differential can handle all the power of BL motors. Gear-diff can also be used on the front.

The newly designed ball-diff is optional

The rear end of the S411 features strong 1-piece lower wishbones and composite. As with all the wishbones on the car, the lower wishbones can be used on both the left and right sides, minimizing the number of spare parts needed to bring to the track. The rear upright features a pivot pin mounting point on the bottom and 2 upper camber link mounting holes for fine-tuning camber rise.

The front and rear end of the Serpent S411 are fully indentical and been designed for high performance and ease of maintenance. The rear bearing blocks have been designed in 2 pieces which allows the topside to be simply removed with 4 screws, giving you easy access to the differential for maintenance or adjustment. All the parts have been machined from aluminium and have anodized in gun metal grey.

To allow you to build your car with the greatest of ease, Serpent supplies a full colour instruction manual and integrated reference guide section that contains all the exploded views and latest options.

S411 decal sheets and set-up sheet are included too.

All Manuals are available to download as a PDF in the Download section of this product page.

The motorbracket is seperated fully from the aluminium mid-shaft brackets to isolate motor-vibrations better. The seperate machined brackets hold the light alumnium middle shaft/ 19T pulley. The holders feature seperate alu bearingholders, which give the best possible support to the mid-shaft section.

Ackermann: two positions on the steering blocks
Camber: adjustable front and rear
Toe-in: adjustable front and rear
Front Caster: 4° static ( 0°, 2° or 6° as optional )
Downstops: adjustable front and rear
Front anti-dive: adjustable range 0° to 3°
Rear anti-squat: adjustable range 0° to 3°
Anti-roll bars: 1.4mm front and 1.4mm rear

Concepts: Harald Hergarten / Michael Salven
Design: Michael Salven

The S411 kit comes without tyres/wheel/spurgear and electronics.

The S411 is packed in a very small strong box with nice graphics, which can be re-used as parts or tyre box lateron.

The box contains bags which are numbered in same sequence as steps in the manual.

Team Serpent will keep you up-to-date on news, racing and set-ups in this site, and through Twitter, Facebook and the Serpent.com webpages.

Snowbirds: report by Marc Fischer (02/12/2012)

1:12 modified

It was a little bit challenging. It started not well due to the missing grip at the beginning but the S120 LT car felt really good during practice!

I made 2 - 3 small mistakes in the first round of qualifying, I lost 4 sec. but nevertheless I managed to take the 4th place.

The first run was fast enough to secure a place in the A-Main. Something strange happened with the car for the next runs and I could not figure out what.

For the final, I rebuild the full car, but already after 4 laps I got some tire problems (broken tire) and I finished the race on 10th position only.

1/10 TC

During the practice I tested a couple of new products:
- Topdeck 1,75mm
- Plastic Spool ( made for the 411 Sport)
- updated C-Hubs (fit very well with the new double driveshaft)

During qualifying my 411 ran fine and I managed to take 5th position in the A-Main. I had good hope for the finals which took place on Sunday.

A-Main
At the start of the final I could pass Paul Lemieux and thanks to a small mistake of Naoto on his part, I was able to take the 3rd spot after 5 laps. But I was hit by Pauls car and this incident on the track damaged my diff and I finished the race in 4th place. Fellow Serpent 411 Martin Crisp did really well too, being 7th in the A-Main as well.

I would like to thank all my sponsors !!!
