The sixth and final race of the 2008 Danish EP Touring Car Championships took place recently at Glostrup which had hosted the opening race of the season back in May. Driving his Serpent S400 Nicolai Nielsen was going fir his third title in a row and the new Champion was determined to finish the season in style.

Nicolai came to the race with his Serpent S400, already sure to take the Championship in the Super Stock division. Of the five previous races he had attended four where he had taken both the TQ spot and victory in each which gave him that big enough points tally to clinch the title before the final race. Although the championship title was secure Nicolai wanted another win.

The practiced on Saturday literally drowned in the rain. Several drivers waited at the track hoping to catch some dry weather but this never happened!

Sunday morning the track was still a bit wet, but for the first round of qualifying the track was declared dry, although there were still moist areas all around the track. Nicolai chose to wait it out, and didn’t hit the track until the second round. A mistake half way trough put Nicolai a bit back, but the run was still good enough for third spot.

In the third and last round of qualifying the track was all dry, and Nicolai put in his best run of the day, bringing him to the very front and his fifth TQ of the season.

The finals went as planned. Nicolai took the win in the first and second A-mains, the battle being bit more intense in the first one, so there was never any doubt about who was going to take the win. Nicolai was simply running too stable and consistent for his rivals. Nicolai and his Serpent also managed to record the fastest lap of the day.

In the last main, Nicolai tried out some new things, amongst them a different motor and gear ratio. This did not turn out well and he had to settle for last and eighth in the final Main. This however didn’t change the fact that Nicolai had won the final race of the Danish Championship, and was crowned Champion of the Super Stock division.

On his way to the price ceremony, a thrilled Nicolai had this to say, “Ohh I’m just so happy right know! I’m really happy about this championship! It’s my third in a row now – but my first running the Serpent for a full season. I had really not expected this I must say. But it feels really great. My S400 has been working well all season, making it rather easy on my to simply run as fast as I could. I have learned a lot about the car and also about myself and how to work in order to keep moving forward. But there has been ups and downs – and this I definitely an up..! I have to say thanks to a lot of people. With out them this might not have happened. So first of all a great thanks to Serpent and all the guys in the Snake pits. Thanks for all your help so far. Also thanks to Allan Rasmussen and AR Racing Electronics for some great power and Nordea Bank Denmark for their support all the way. And last but not least the guys back at my local club. So now we just have to see what comes next…”
