EC 1/8 scale onroad: van Gastel is vice-Champion with 966-TE (28/07/2011)

Ilia van Gastel took an impressive 2nd place with 966-TE at the 2011 Euro's in Luxembourg.
He stayed very close and at same pace of winner Collari right until the end with just a 6 seconds gap at the finish line.
Ilia made the 7th fastest qualifying time with his Serpent 966-TE version with Xceed ZX engine and using Xceed tyres.
Michael Salven was close to reaching the final, but in the last lap of the semi Vrielinck snatched away the 4th place by making a questionable overtaking manoever.
Serpent's Mark Green saw his chances evaporate in the 1st lap of the semi final when his engine...

The Serpent 966 has excelled in competitions worldwide and drivers are very happy with the easy handling and very-fast chassis.
The developments of the 2010 season have now been incorporated in the Serpent 966-EVO:
- Serpent Flex Control rear end
- delrin bushings to capture the rear anti-roll bar bearings
- delrin bushings to capture the 2-speed shaft bearings
- ventilated, lightweight mono-disk brake now standard
- 3mm rear anti-roll bar wire type standard

Ilia van Gastel, with Serpent 966, has been able to claim the National title in the Netherlands, by winning the last race in the National series, after qualifying in 2nd.
Great results for this multiple EC and WC finalist, who already won the EFRA GP in Germany earlier this year too.
Congratulations to van Gastel and his team for this great achievement !

Dear racers,
last weekend we meet us in Hildesheim in the north of Germany for the last EFRA GP 2010. But the weather forcast was not really good, and it was unfortunatly true, because we had more rain then dry! On wednesday i had some luck to test something because there it was just cold but dry for the hole day. On thursday it was rainig very hard (so no test during the day)

Ilia van Gastel took the win of the 2010 EFRA GP in Germany, Hildesheim.
An all Serpent podium with Giesa in 2nd, in same lap as Ilia and Merlin is 3rd. Super.
In total 7 x 966 in the final.

BENELUX CUP in Genk, Belgium
On friday the track was open for free pratice. The track was treated with a special mixture of Water and (alot of) sugar to improve the grip, this worked really wel. Because the track is alongside a motocross circuit alot of dust is blown over it, esspecially on a warm, dry and windy day. Spraying the track with sugar and water helps alot.
Because the track was treated the car had alot of steering and rear grip was hard to find. After some huge setup changes the steering was reduced and along came the rear grip. :D After running-in...
EC 1/8 Italy: Serpent puts 3 cars in the main (05/07/2010)

As a final result Team Serpent was able to reach the final with 3 Serpent 966 cars.
Ilia van Gastel made up up way from the 1/16th finals all the way to the final, so a lot of racing for our Belgian Team driver. In the final his quest for the EC title stranded after 62 laps.
Andrea Cristiani and Michael Salven both made in in through the same strong semi-final. In the end Cristiani in 5th and Salven in 6th.
Mark Green and Fantini both in the semi-finals did not make it through ths time.
No real dominance by any brand, as all are in the final and 3 brands on the podium, so with 3 Serpents...

Ilia van Gastel remains in excellent shape this year, by TQ-ing and winning the EFRA GP 1/8 in Apeldoorn with Serpent 966/Mega/Xceed.
Ilia is really in shape to do very well at the upcomming nationals in Holland and then get ready for the EC in Italy, where he was fastest in practise earlier this year ....
