Ilia van Gastel took an impressive 2nd place with 966-TE at the 2011 Euro's in Luxembourg.
He stayed very close and at same pace of winner Collari right until the end with just a 6 seconds gap at the finish line.
Ilia made the 7th fastest qualifying time with his Serpent 966-TE version with Xceed ZX engine and using Xceed tyres.
Michael Salven was close to reaching the final, but in the last lap of the semi Vrielinck snatched away the 4th place by making a questionable overtaking manoever.

Last weekend we were in Locorotondo for the most important 1/8 race of this year, the european champioship. Locorotondo is located in Apulia, in the south of Italy..that is to say sun and great food!! For all the week a great weather permitted everybody to enjoy this event. The track is very fast so if you could find a good engine you already made half of the set-up work.. in fact during the first practice days we focused on choosing the best engine-pipe combo. As a final result Team Serpent was able to reach the final with 3 Serpent 966 cars.
Ilia van Gastel made up up way from the 1/16th finals all the way to the final, so a lot of racing for our Belgian Team driver. In the final his quest for the EC title stranded after 62 laps.
Andrea Cristiani and Michael Salven both made in in through the same strong semi-final. In the end Cristiani in 5th and Salven in 6th.
Mark Green and Fantini both in the semi-finals did not make it through ths time.
No real dominance by any brand, as all are in the final and 3 brands on the podium, so with 3 Serpents...

on the last weekend we were in Locorotondo for the first race of the Italian championship. This was a good a test for the European championship that will take place on this track on the 4 July.
During the euro warm-up we saw a very fast Ilia Van Gastel so we decided to test his set-up. On Wednesday evening we arrived in Locorotondo and on Thursday morning we could be early at the track. We had 2 cars: one with my usual set-up and the other with Ilia's one. The first impression in the morning was that Ilia's set-up was more consistent and faster than mine so we focused on this...

Our season started after a long winter break. Saturday morning at 3.30 o’clock we started to Fiorano / Italy. Angelo from the organisation had over 100 Drivers in 1/8 and 1/10.
In the final it was Collari 1st, Balestri 2 and in 3rd Serpent driver Andrea Cristiani. So a nice podium finish for Andrea, who closed in on Balestri and come to 1.5 sec gap only in the end. Nice close fight.
With 4 Serpents in the final a good result and could have been even better. Calce, Salven, and van Gastel were also all very fast.
Ilia van Gastel with 966 even set a new track-record during the final with a 14,277 sec lap, on a 300meter track, just imagine.

I qualified for the semi-final. I was quite fast in the semi, but ran out of fuel after 9’50. In fact, the tyres wear was important, and the consumption was higher due to small tyres… But I had to try, and it was a mistake…

Fabulous victory for Andrea Cristiani with Serpent 966, 2.5 laps clear of WC finalist Robin d'Hondt from Belgium, and a super 3rd place for French driver Serge Christiany, also with Serpent 966 and in 4th 40+ EC Champion Jackly Mouton with Serpent 966 as well, Smolderen, Lorenzi too, Serpent driver Riccobonno made it into the Final, but only made few laps and was out too soon, stll making it 6 x 966 out of 10.
Fabio Domanin (Serpent 966/MaxPower/Xceed) won the 2009 Italian Championship 1/8 scale, ahead of Collari and Tironi.
In F2 it is young talent Matteo Truglio with Serpent as Italian Champion !!
